A summerhouse is a refuge from city life, whether for weekend getaways or extended summer stays. This family purchased their 'second home' by the beach in Vejby, originally built in 1968. Its renovation was driven by a desire for an open, multifunctional space where the kitchen also serves as a hangout area. The existing space, characterized by low ceilings, inspired a choice for a calm and clean color palette and an emphasis on natural materials, primarily white and wood, to create a functional and cozy atmosphere.
Functionality was a key consideration in the planning phase, leading to the decision to incorporate a kitchen island for preparing food and socializing while keeping essential appliances and utilities such as a sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator along the wall for a clean and organized look. Craftsmanship played a significant role in their choice of materials and design details, prioritizing durability, quality, and small touches such as wooden inlays in the drawers.
The new BASIS kitchen has become the heart of the summerhouse, encouraging more cooking and providing a space where the family can engage in conversations while preparing meals or enjoying a morning cup of coffee. The improved layout and functionality have positively impacted their daily routines, making it easier to relax and spend quality time.
