Extra Ordinary Objects are the small tools that play a significant role in our day-to-day lives at work, at home, or in the kitchen. We asked Outi Forsten to share stories about the objects she likes to have around at her home in Helsinki.
The Blue Bowl
»Years ago, I walked by a little flea market, where someone had left random stuff on their. This bowl was there too, with a note saying, “take me”. I took it and walked away. It has stayed with me since, being an essential part of my kitchen. Once, I misplaced it and tried to find it for months without luck. One evening, a person showed up to a dinner I hosted with the bowl—it came back to me.«
Kana cups
»One summer I worked at a villa in Tuscany, which is also an artist residency. I met a bunch of artists from different fields, and a few of them have stayed in my life—Ana from Kana London is one of them. She made me these little cups. They were meant for matcha as I used to drink it a lot (whenever I wasn’t drinking negronis). Now, I mostly drink espresso from them, but it’s very nostalgic for me.«
Egg holders
»I used to work at a café in Helsinki, that also served as a living room for a small group of people. One day one of them organized a small field trip to a toy store that belong to a collector of old toys. The place was enormous and completely packed with all kinds of strange toys. I bought egg holders, they remind me of that café and its little community and the kind man at the toy store. I also love eggs.«
