Extra Ordinary Objects with Steffi Bauer

Steffi Bauer is a Textile Designer and Illustrator based in Munich, Germany. Steffi applies her artworks to different settings and mediums such as packaging, wallpapers, magazines, and most importantly, textiles.

Extra Ordinary Objects are the small tools that play a significant role in our day-to-day lives at work, at home, or in the kitchen. We asked Steffi Bauer to share stories about the objects she likes to have around at her home in Munich.

Shopping basket

»I fell in love with this green shopping basket at a market in Portugal. We were traveling by bus and the basket was a faithful companion to us, and it has been ever since.«

Favorite cake recipe

»Unfortunately, I recently lost my grandmother. One of my favorite keepsakes of her is grandma’s amazing red wine cake. I can‘t remember a single visit to her house where we didn‘t eat this cake at some point, it was always there. Shortly before her death, I asked her to write down the recipe for me.«

Chemex pot and my coffee cup

»I really love coffee, especially from our Chemex coffee pot. We use it multiple times a day, and I really like the look of this design classic. I also have a special morning coffee cup that I bought in New York City at the shop called Recreation Center. Standing on a wooden plate by Stephan & Schmid.«

Salt and pepper shaker

»Admittedly, we don‘t really use the salt and pepper shakers that often, but I found them in my parent's attic and have been in love ever since.«

Silver spoon

»My mother-in-law left us this great silver spoon. She loved Indian food and I think of her every time I use it.«
